   a widely distributed natural family of nocturnally active
   birds including the whip-poor-will caprimulgus
   vociferus, the chuck-will's-widow caprimulgus
   carolinensis, and the common nighthawk chordeiles
   minor; -- called popularly the goatsuckers or

   day.
